Ipswitch was founded in 1991 on a simple premise: to produce IT software that took what was possible and made it practical. Initially, our goal was to bring high quality IT software to small businesses that lacked the time and resources to learn the overly complex enterprise software that was available at that time.
After a first generation of TCP/IP gateway and protocol stack products in the early 1990’s that included Catipult (a NetWare to TCP/IP gateway) , Piper/IP (the smallest, fastest and most reliable TCP/IP stack for DOS), Vantage/IP (the fastest and most reliable TCP/IP stack for OS/2) and Acadia/VxD (the smallest, fastest and most reliable TCP/IP stack for Windows), we released WS_FTP Pro in 1994. IMail Server followed in 1995, and WhatsUp Gold in 1996. Through development, partnerships, and acquisitions, including Standard Networks in 2008, Hourglass Technologies and Dorian Software Creations in 2009, and MessageWay in 2010, Ipswitch has extended WS_FTP, WhatsUp Gold and IMail Server into broader product families. Today, these products serve millions of customers around the world. Ipswitch’s products have won praise and awards from industry analysts, press, customers and partners.
As we began to achieve success with small businesses, enterprise IT departments started to come under the same constraints – smaller budgets, less time, fewer resources, higher expectations and an accelerating stream of new technologies to learn and implement. Today, our software retains the same focus of being easy to evaluate, purchase, install, learn, use, support and maintain. Our customers today are individuals, small businesses and enterprises who need solutions to help them accomplish even more in this increasingly complex IT world.
